| AWS | Amazon Web Services - Cloud-Computing platform from Amazon. |
| Copy-on-Write (COW) | A data management technique where modifications are made to a copy of the data, preserving the original until changes are committed, optimizing memory and storage usage. |
| BITMOTECOsystem | The Internet of Things (IoT) Ecosystem by Bitmotec, consisting of BITMOTECO Hardware and Software providing an "IoT-Ecosystem". |
| BITMOTECO Core OS | Core Operating System (OS). The Linux based operating system provided as a base for the BITMOTECO nodes and the VMs. |
| BITMOTECO GUI | Graphical User Interface (GUI). Enables user-friendly operation and configuration of the BITMOTECO Platform. |
| BITMOTECO module | With modules the functions of the BITMOTECO Platform can be extended. There are various BITMOTECO modules: For example data connectors, data storage, data processing, visualization or AI applications. |
| BITMOTECO node | An industrial computer with a pre installed BITMOTECO Platform which ca be used as an Edge device. |
| BITMOTECO Platform | The IoT software platform by Bitmotec - Contains the BITMOTECO Core Operating System (OS) and the BITMOTECO GUI and can be extended with BITMOTECO modules. |
| BITMOTECO SDK | Software Development Kit - Development tools for individual module development. To further expand the functions and applications of the system individually. |
| BITMOTECO VM | Virtual Machine (VM). The BITMOTECO Platform provided as a VM without hardware. For installation on your own server. |
| Btrfs | A modern Linux filesystem with advanced features like snapshots, copy-on-write, and dynamic storage management, designed for high reliability and scalability. |
| Container | A container is a standard unit of software that packages up code and all its dependencies so the application runs quickly and reliably from one computing environment to another. The term container is often associated with docker. |
| DevOps | The term is made up of "Dev" (development, engineering) and "Ops" (operations, procedures) and brings together people, processes and technologies to ensure that customers receive consistently high-quality products. |
| Docker | Docker is a platform that automates the deployment, scaling, and management of applications using containerization. Docker and the Docker logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Docker, Inc. in the United States and/or other countries. Docker, Inc. and other parties may also have trademark rights in other terms used herein |
| Gateway | A hardware component that establishes a connection between two systems. |
| GigE Vision | An interface standard from industrial image processing. |
| Google Cloud Platform | Cloud Computing Services by Google. |
| GUI | Graphical user interface or graphic user interface. |
| Internet of Things (IoT) | A collective term for technologies, which makes it possible to connect physical and virtual objects with each other and let them work together through information and communication technologies. |
| IO-Link® | Communication standard for connecting intelligent sensors and actuators to an automation system. |
| LoRaWAN® | Long Range Wide Area Network. Energy-efficient radio technology with a very long range, specially designed for the Internet of Things (IoT). The LoRa® Mark and LoRa Logo are trademarks of Semtech Corporation. |
| Manager (BITMOTECO) | An interface between containers from BITMOTECO modules and the BITMOTECO Core Operating System. There are multiple managers in the OS, each for its special topic, e.g. module management. |
| Microsoft Azure | Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing platform from Microsoft. |
| Modbus | The Modbus protocol is a communication protocol for communication with programmable logic controllers. |
| MQTT | Message Queuing Telemetry Transport is an open network protocol for machine-to-machine communication. |
| OPC UA | Machine-to-machine communication protocol for industrial automation. OPC Unified Architecture is a standard for data exchange as a platform-independent, service-oriented architecture. |

| SAP ERP | SAP: Software Company, ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning or corporate information system, which allows all business-relevant areas of a company to be viewed in context. |

| SquashFS | A compressed, read-only filesystem for Linux that efficiently stores and compresses large datasets into a single file, minimizing disk space usage. |
